The Basilica of the Holy Cross is the main Franciscan Church in the whole region of Tuscany. The Basilica of the Holy Cross is situated on the one most beautiful square of Florence: on the Piazza di Santa Croce. It is also known as the “Pantheon of the Italian Glories”.

The structure of the Basilica of the Holy Cross is very big, the biggest Franciscan Church in the world. Inside and outside the church, visitors can see many works of art, such as its sixteen chapels, its frescoes, its tombs and its cenotaphs. Today the Basilica of the Holy Cross hosts also the Museo dell’Opera di Santa Croce, a wonderful museum in which many tourists can see and admire many works of art of the sixteen and nineteen time.
The major part of the artist whose worked in the church were: Cimabue, the author of the “Crucifixion”; Donatello who made the “Annunciation” and the crucifix situated at the Cappella Bardi; The famous Giotto author of the prestigious frescoes in Cappella Peruzzi and author of the “Coronation of the Virgin”.
