"The Hospital of the Innocents’ is also called by the Italian “L’ Ospedale degli Innocenti”. It is one of the major building that you can see in Florence. Ages ago it was a children’s orphanage and it was designed by Filippo Brunelleschi during the early fifteenth century. He was one of the most famous architect and artist during that period in Italy in Florence. The structures outside the building were inspired by a classical style, in particular with an Italian Romanesque and Gothic architecture.

Inside the Hospital of the Innocents’ you can see several important monuments and places, such as the famous Loggia dei Lanzi, capitals, the Composite Order and a lot of decorations like arches, spherical domes with white walls, columns, squares. The major part of decorations are made of and known as Dark Stone (Pietra Serena).
The desire of a regularity shape was in order to become an important and significant element in Renaissance architecture style. Still now The Hospital of the Innocents’ has the function of a children’s orphanage, but it was added also the function of museum, to testimony the great history of Florence.
