The Michelangelo Square is situated nearby the Basilico of St Miniato,
on one of the most beautiful mountain: the Monte alle Croci. The whole
rout must be made on foot and it was designed by Giuseppe Poggi. The
Michelangelo Square represents the most famous point of observation of
the citizens’ view and the most famous tourists’ destination.
The
Michelangelo Square was constructed in 1865 and it is nearby the Arno:
one of the most note river of Florence. From 1865 Florence became the
Capital of Italy and the whole city was engaged in a urbanity renewal,
that is to say the rebirth of the middle-class.
In the Michelangelo Square it is possible to see some of the famous
masterpiece of Florence, such as: the works of art of “David” and the
“Four allegories of the Cappelle Medicee of St Lawrence”. These copies
are made of bronze, while the original are made of white marble.
The
magnificent view that offer the Michelangelo Square is unique in the
world. From the Michelangelo Square you can admire the Forte Belvedere,
the Church of Santa Croce, the Old Palace, the Bargello, the Badia
Fiorentina, Fiesole, Settignano and the bridges of Florence, such as one
of the most note is the Ponte Vecchio Bridge.
